Les Halles de la Buffa, a disappeard world
In the first part of the 20th century the covered market called “les Halles de la buffa” used to be a very vivid focal point of the buffa district in Nice. At the beginning of the 21st century, this covered market started to décline as more and more merchants closed their doors. There were plans to make it become part of a bigger, ambitious building project which would include social housing, senior housings, residential ones as well as the covered market around a beautiful Art déco building.
However, nothing of it got realized. After the coronavirus pandemic, fewer salesmen came back, still offering high-quality food to loyal clients in a ghostly atmosphere, insecure about their future. By the end of 2021, the structure was sold to a developer -Acicap- who decided to abandon the first development project and build a big luxury hotel instead. By the beginning of 2022 the Halles de la Buffa were definitively closed.
